Labiaplasty, also referred to as labia reduction, is an increasingly popular plastic surgery that reshapes long or hanging vaginal lips as part of vaginal rejuvenation.
This procedure not only enhances the shape of the vaginal lips that enlarge due to aging, sexual intercourse and pregnancy, but also helps women with genital pain, embarrassment, hygiene problems or sexual dysfunction due to their elongated labia.
Labiaplasty can be performed on the vagina’s inner lips (labia minora), outer lips (labia majora) or both and can be combined with other plastic surgeries such as Vaginoplasty (tightening of the vagina) and Clitoridotomy (clitoral hood reduction).
Am I a good candidate?
Labiaplasty is a good choice for women with enlarged inner and outer vaginal lips that cause them physical or emotional discomfort.
This surgery is not meant for women who wish to enhance sexual pleasure. If you are looking to increase sexual satisfaction, we can discuss the procedure that answers your expectations and is better suited for you.
The best candidates for Labiaplasty are fully-developed young women and adult women who don’t have any preexisting medical conditions.
It is strongly recommended that you refrain from smoking and consuming alcohol for at least two weeks before surgery. You should also stop taking certain medications like blood thinners to avoid bleeding risks. It is also recommended to refrain from sexual intercourse the night before your surgery.
How is it done?
Labiaplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia and the procedure takes around one hour.
During surgery, the bulging inner lips are cut, the excess skin trimmed and then dissolvable stitches are done.
For optimized results, I will enhance the outer lips through lipofilling, which consists of injecting body fat into the labia majora to give the vagina a more youthful look.
Labiaplasty can be combined with clitoral hood reduction, where the excess skin is removed from around the clitoris to increase sexual stimulation.
How long is the recovery?
After surgery, your genitals will be naturally swollen and tender for several weeks. You should refrain from intercourse for at least three weeks after Labiaplasty.
You can resume your normal lifestyle within a week but you should avoid strenuous activities throughout your recovery period.
You should also avoid using tampons in the ten days following surgery, but you will have to wear pads for few days due to post-operative bleeding.
